Indiana Tobacco Grant - QUIT NOW! - From Wellness Council of Indiana

Jan 9, 2013 8:00:00 AM

The Wellness Council of Indiana (WCI) has received a grant to provide a tobacco cessation program to up to 100 employers of any size in Indiana. The program is called QUIT NOW! It's an easy-to use, web-based program that links organizations with support for tobacco cessation.

The program can assist organizations in two different ways.

  1. It provides guidance on expanding a tobacco policy at the workplace by compiling best practices and helpful resources.
  2. It provides a 12-week support program to employees for tobacco cessation, as it guides them through the quitting process and links them with the services of the Indiana QuitLine (1-800-QUIT-NOW) for more support.

Users can participate in a chapter a week to receive more support in quitting tobacco use. Nonsmokers are also welcome to participate in the first three chapters, which focus largely on supporting a smoker in quitting and available resources.

There is also a reporting capability built into the program, so your designated coordinator can pull up a report of all users to assess their progress in the QUIT NOW Tool. This is especially helpful for organizations that are offering incentives to their employees for tobacco cessation.

The QUIT NOW Tool has been designed to take the workload off the organization, saving time and resources. The coordinator at each location literally has to simply 'hit a button' to launch the program to employees, and the system takes over from there.

Employer Requirements

  1. Complete this application and return to Adrienne Luegers at WCI to confirm participation and secure a spot as one of the 100 users.
  2. Become a Preferred Employer with 1-800-QUIT-NOW. This is free of charge and links your organization with a tobacco cessation expert at 1-800-QUIT-NOW. (This is one of our grant deliverables).
  3. Gather the first name, last name and e-mail address of interested users and submit to Adrienne Luegers in an excel spreadsheet so WCI may establish login accounts for each user. WCI will provide marketing materials to assist you with promoting the program.
  4. After access to the QUIT NOW Tool has been provided, your coordinator will click the 'launch the campaign' button within the program to send out e-mails for users inviting them to get started in the program, which are auto-generated by the system. It's as simple as that! After this point, the QUIT NOW Tool walks participants through the process.
